FreeDeck stream deck build video EP 1.
This is an introduction to a new FreeDeck build project. This video includes the step by step PCB build. For the 3x2 Pico board. Future episodes will cover installing the firmware, 3D printing a case, using the Configurator App and using the FreeDeck with OBS Studio.
I purchased the KAYSUDA web cam for Windows Hello. We are still looking for a better camera for recording video. The microphone was a gift for me and my wife. It is OK but hopefully will become a backup. I struggled doing the editing in Canva this time. I’m beginning to feel it is a good tool for creating clips but falls down with multiple clips and splits. For the first time, I am seeing some of the things OBS will let me do.

Enjoy a showcase of past projects while I share an exciting announcement. To back up what I said in this video, it was produced with Canva Pro instead of my trusty Windows Movie Maker. I'm not crazy about a monthly subscription but this could be motivation to improve the frequency of my releases. I also enjoy some of the creative aspects there

Keep checking back here if that sounds interesting to you.
SRC Vision Optical Sorter

Simco/Ramic was dependent on timber processing for revenue. In the late 80's increased environmental concerns saw a reduction in timber processing revenue and the company begin looking for other ways to leverage their knowledge of industrial computers, optical devices and custom software design. What happened with that VK-1 later? It really appears to be a Soviet clone of the Swedish FACIT model "TK". I got the FACIT "NTK", and due to the complete cover, the mechanics usually is in a realatively nice condition. I had to use some WD40 to unseize some mechanical movements (old oil had gummed up), and later lubricated it with modern sewing machine oil, which doesn't gum. "Nevr Dull"-polish for the chrome parts, and hot water with laundry detergent to clean the cover. Now it works like a charm and looks just fine.

I haven't done much with it. I did remove the cover and clean out all the Styrofoam. A couple of the indicator wheels in the accumulator register are scraping on something. Some of the paint was scratched away from the numbers. I found some service type videos for similar models so I'm slowly getting comfortable with the idea of tearing it apart for a full restoration. Also, I found another good deal on the same model so now I have two. I figure I can mess around with one and use the other as a reference. If you have links to a service manual or other technical material about these, would you share them with me here?

My son and I got this up and running in Logisim and ran your example programs. Do you have the instruction set documented anywhere so we can write our own? (We could reverse-engineer it, but I'd like to just "dive right in.")

    • @RetroRogersLab

Go to my GitHub (github.com/linhartr22/My_SAP_Logisim). Browse to the Intruction_Decoder_ROM folder. View the "My Sap_Instruction_Decoder.ROM.ps1" file. Scroll down to the row 72. If you just pay attention to the comment rows you'll see the opcodes are grouped by function then listed individually. For example, row 72 indicates the LOAD instruction group. Row 73 is opcode 00 which is the LDXA (DD) instruction. It is a two byte instructions that takes 5 machine cycles to execute (2/5). To determine what the instruction does, on row 74, the values after the -f will give you an idea. The first PC2ADDR copies the Program Counter to the Address Select Register and the FETCH_IR copies RAM to the Instruction Register and increments the Program Counter. The second PC2ADDR copies the Program Counter to the Address Select Register and the FETCH_ADDR copies RAM to the Address Select Register and increments the Program Counter. Finally the RAM2A copies RAM to the A register. In summary LDXA (DD) loads the A register with the contents of memory at address (DD). You can see the definitions for the different machine cycles in rows 34 through 67.

Hi Roger, Thanks for your fatastic series. I have just completed making the original design as per Ben (finally to have the design upgraded with your additions). I have an issue with control ROMs - when I work on the controls manually, the computer works fine and the example addition program outputs the result (42) correctly. But the moment ROMs are used for control (with Ben's sketch with JMP) , it goes astray. the PC goes from 1 to 15 straightaway. I have a good power distribution with almost 5 V on all chips and the bypass 100 nf caps are put on all breadboards. I have also separated the RAM RC circuit from the clock, with a buffer. Could you suggest possible solution to the with problem with ROMs ? By the way, what is the DC resistance of the completed circuit, when the controil ROMs are in ?

Thank you, I have been needing a servo tester, hooking them up to a transmitter every time you want to center a servo is a bit of a pain, and I always forget to order one when I am buying parts. All of the other UA-cam videos show builds that are overly complicated. A LCD screen is cool and all, but I really don't need to know the exact settings, I just want to be able to center them, and hook up a pair of servos together to make sure they are moving in sync. Thanks again for a simple handy code.

I'm pleased to know you found this useful. Back in the day, before mixers were common, I used a 6801 CPU to mix a small amount of rudder input with two throttle servos for a twin engine model. It worked great!

I dont know what you wnt to do with the system. I decided against CPM and only implememted an OS in EPROM with basic functions like INTEL HEX decoder and an interrupt structure. Software development ist completely in C99 and I can display everything in a linux terminal with NCURSES library, written for the VT100 terminal. I wrote "life emulation" first and it works fine and also "4 wins", 2 computer players, playing forever against each other and displaying the results on screen.

So far I only have one microprocessor design that was completely my own work. While I would be quite happy with a 64K 8080 or Z80 system the challenges of bank switching and possibly MP/M appeal to me. I'm also fond of blinkenlights. :) I'm producing a video series on my channel detailing an Altair 8800 and 8080 CPU Emulator. I emulated a serial port and wrote a serial monitor in 8080 assembly.

I also did a Z80 design on my own (Russian Z80 works on it) and wrote a complete new OS in C (SDCC Compiler). But now I have no senseful use for it :-( ARM Cortex is much more convenient with everyting.

I'd expect the outcome of reversing the polarity when connecting an ESC to be a blown ESC. Once something fails it is difficult to determine what else might happen. If the ESC creates a short it could damage the battery. Transients on the power could damage sensitive electronics.

A common issue with flipping is having motors or props turning the wrong direction. Confirm the motors are turning in the direction shown in OpenPilot and then that each prop is pushing air down to confirm you have the correct clockwise or counter-clockwise prop.

I have just recently purchased a MITS ALtair 8800a. It is currently at a friends house of mine, in TX. As he has a couple of working Altairs. This will make it easier for him to test all the boards. We had to replace all the power supply caps, and the beast is alive again. So, it will not be long, until I have it here to play with. It would be great to start learning on a nice emulator, like the one you have built. Is there a way to download this and run simple programs on it? Here are some pics, for your enjoyment. drive.google.com/open?id=1197OVi0OuEAg0k7n2Arh3aOdeOli8QS8

Hi Jeff. I enjoyed the photos and am a bit envious of you having the real hardware to play with. I'm not sure how valid it is to use this project as an Altair trainer. My focus was on the CPU emulation and the Altair "interface" was a fun diversion. I plan to emulate a UART for serial communication. This would require that I write or borrow some code for a Serial Monitor. It might be fun to emulate a paper tape reader to bring in programs. Of course this would require a paper tape punch emulator . The never ending project... To answer your question though, In the source code I can emulate ROM code by populating the array that emulates the RAM. If you don't have GameMaker: Studio 1.4 then you wouldn't be able to edit and compile the code.

Thanks for getting back to me, that looks like a really fun project. I love doing projects like yours. I found a really great simulator at www.altair32.com/Altair32code.htm It comes with a disk drive and a terminal program and a couple of image files to load. I was able to load CPM 2.2 and run BASIC-80 Rev. 5.21

I've played with earlier versions of that emulator. I decided to test out the latest version and it still has graphical issues with the switches and LEDs. I know this was an area that gave me some challenge, mostly related to GameMaker: Studio, so I won't be to critical of this.

@@RetroRogersLab Thank you, keep me up to date on this. I would love to see this working. I have not received my Altair yet, as there seems to be a problem with one of the inverter chips, on the front panel. He has not gotten around to replacing it, as it is difficult to test, to see if it is bad, as it only gets a single pulse, to test if the switches are in the up position on not. You can see in this video, after he hits the examine switch, A6-A11 go high, even though the switches are all down. drive.google.com/open?id=1Zeh6D76Aj0-NZFUOJlosx3T3kXKhML3T

I'm still just trying to get over my fear of disassembling this one. My success (or failure) will determine if I have an aptitude for it. My eyes and fingers (heck, pretty much, most of me) doesn't work as well as it used to. During early disassembly I removed one of the pieces and realized I had overlooked a linkage arm. I had sudden panic there might have been a spring attached that I'd never find. It turned out just fine and I returned the piece to its original location without issue. I'm very close to releasing Part 2 showing the disassembly.

    • @rubberswan
      @rubberswan 5 років тому

I tend not to disassemble unless it’s absolutely necessary, and will only do it if I have nothing to lose - the worst that can happen is that it still doesn’t work! If a machine is a little stiff in operation but is otherwise OK I usually just take the covers off for a general cleaning and light lubrication.

Hi Michiel. Sounds like you were only able to find the French manual as well. It was inconvenient and I did use Google translate a few times but I was able to figure out most of the functions from those instructions. Here's a link to my Google Doc containing what I did translate: docs.google.com/document/d/1GT9-QcOCZtvRTH5vcCg4VRjcTzSYeeLAZlH0winXrnM/edit?usp=sharing I haven't looked at this in a while and I didn't check to see how much was left to translate. I seem to recall the document was images, not text, so I had to type the French into Google. It isn't too picky about the special characters.
